We'll keep this page updated with the plans, activities, and goals of the Pacific Northwest Domain Director to help create a higher level of accountability.

2001-2002 Domain Goals

The following are the goals set for the 2001-2002 school year.

1) To continue building trust with the undergrads by always being up front and honest with them and maintaining a strong relationship and open communications with the current officers and resident councils of all chapters.

2) To continue open lines of communications with all chapter BOG's, assist them with resolving conflicts, help them to comply with chapter and National expectations, and to assist them in identifying and recruiting new BOG members .

3) To attend/assist with Homecoming at both chapters and any other major alumni event.

4) To re-establish the officers for the Graduate Council of each chapter this fall with meetings held at least once yearly, probably during homecoming weekends.

5) To find more ways to increase financial support to each chapter, the Foundation, and HITWG Camps by individual alumni, Graduate Councils, and alumni clubs.

6) To assist in improving alumni relations for both chapters and to help increase the number of alumni actively participating in chapter activities.

7) To conduct a Domain Conference in order to assist with officer transitions and chapter/officer goal setting, and other special retreats/seminars as needed to address specific problems or concerns of the chapters.

8) To expand the Domain Conference raffle to include more items and a t-shirt auction to boost the overall philanthropy donation over $500, and increase alumni attendance at the Conference.

9) To explore the possibility of expanding Beta Gamma's Ropes Course Retreat in August to include Alpha Kappa. If possible, some aspects would be held as a domain and some aspects held as separate chapters.

10) For all chapters to turn in all reports to Nationals on time and to receive the Administrative Excellence Award.

11) To assist Alpha Kappa to achieve Basic Chapter Expectations this year and Beta Gamma to achieve Order of the Star Expectations.

12) To assist each chapter with preparing and submitting applications for every national award they are eligible for in the spring.

13) To continue the improved public relations of each chapter both within their local campuses and communities as well as nationally through exposure in The Laurel, website, and other publications.

14) To make every effort to visit the chapters while the National Consultant is in town.

15) To attend at least one Chapter Meeting and one BOG meeting each semester for each chapter.

16) To begin a new program of meeting with the Executive Officers of both chapters on the Sunday morning of any visit to review goals, clear up questions or concerns, and ensure both chapters are current with reports and obligations.

17) To make every effort to attend/assist Beta Gamma's HITWG Camps fundraiser and to ensure Alpha Kappa develops a fundraiser and makes their first donation to the camps.

18) To attend every National seminar/workshop, Leadership Academy, and Convention.

19) To continue re-colonization efforts at Alpha Zeta and Alpha Pi with the expectation both will be granted during the year. To continue working with the U of O so that a new colony there can be explored as the fifth chapter for the domain.

20) To continue assisting the Evergreen Alumni Club of Seattle to grow and prosper and to start a new club in Portland by year's end.

21) To continue the increased frequency of visits from national officers and headquarters staff to local chapters and events.

22) If at all possible, to attend the Officer's Institute nearest the Westcoast and/or attend the chartering of either the Long Beach or Colorado State chapters.

23) To establish a Domain Council once we have a third chapter/colony in the domain with officer terms to run from one Domain Conference until the next.

24) To recruit more alumni and assist them in planning and developing the festivities for Alpha Kappa's 75th Anniversary to be held in 2002.

25) To beat Mike Gabhart, Director of Chapter Services, in a March Madness office pool.

What is a Domain Director?

The following is taken directly from an October 2000 memo from Executive Director Joel S. Rudy, and National Council Domain Director Committee Chairman Michael D. Dovilla.

The unique role of the Domain Director results from the fact that he is a volunteer alumnus appointed by the Executive Director to serve as a National Officer within a specified region of the country containing specific chapters of Phi Kappa Tau. The Domain Director assists in overseeing chapters within his Domain (region) with primary attention being given to alumni cultivation, development and training, Boards of Governors, and developing and maintaining positive working relationships with those institutions serving as host for our chapters. Typically the Domain Director will not get involved in day-to-day activities of the chapter, but rather work to reinforce the role of the Board of Governors and to maintain the standards of the National Fraternity. In essence the Domain Director, as a National Officer, represents the National Council and Executive Director in his region.

In this role, the Domain Director is expected to have a working knowledge of the Fraternity Constitution and statutes, policies, regulations and the rituals of the organization. He is expected to meet periodically with BOGs, Housing Corporations, attend at least two chapter meetings per academic year, attend at least one major chapter function, contact the appropriate university official in regards to chapter status, plan and execute at least one Domain Workshop per year and maintain open communication with the National Offices located in Oxford, Ohio.

Additional goals of the program include but are not limited to: (a) recruiting volunteer alumni participation in chapter, Domain and national programs; (b) assisting in coordinating alumni communication and events within the domain; (c) assisting in investigating and resolving issues facing chapters; (d) assisting BOGs, advisors and undergraduate chapter members in establishing positive working relationships with their host institutions; and (e) educating members of the chapters and BOGs about their roles and responsibilities.

The role is complex yet reflective of our commitment as a national fraternity to serve our members and their colleges/universities in an informed, responsible and complementary manner.
